'50 Best', the list of the best restaurants and bars in the world, has revealed its new complementary project called '50 Next', a list, but not a ranking, made up of 50 young people who shape the future of gastronomy and, consequently, represent the next generation of the sector.

The first edition of this list will be presented on 22 February next year in digital format and, if the pandemic allows, in Bilbao at a later event. Candidates must be no older than 35 years of age and, in order to participate, either had to be nominated or could submit their candidacy themselves until 12 November.

As '50 Best' indicates, over the last two decades they have explicitly focused on finding and highlighting top-class restaurants and bars, and on celebrating all those cities and cultures with great gastronomic potential that were unknown to the world. Today, however, they see that they are ready to start a new stage that involves something else: people. People are at the heart of all the restaurants and bars in the world, but they don’t only want to celebrate the people who work in them, but they also want to praise all those people who drive the gastronomic universe as a whole.

To achieve this, they have appealed to people working in all areas of the food ecosystem, from independent farmers and small-scale producers, to scientists, activists and application developers, who are making a difference by pushing the boundaries of gastronomy and addressing challenges from innovative perspectives. The main objective of this new list is to inspire, empower and connect the generation of young talent that will pave the way for a brighter future

This is not the first '50 Best' initiative of this 2020, it has previously launched the '50 Best for Recovery' initiative to help the recovery of the gastronomy sector from the pandemic.
