Jordi Roca opens Casa Cacao in Girona
Casa Cacao - Joan Pujol - Creus
On the 15th of February, Jordi Roca fulfilled his dream of opening his own chocolate factory in Girona. It is located in an historic building in the central Plaça de Catalunya square.
The idea of opening this establishment started with the wish of Anna Payet, Joan Roca's wife, to run a small hotel and the chef's wish to open his own chocolate factory.
With the inauguration of this new business, Girona has become a truly gastronomic city where you can not only enjoy the gastronomy offered by the Roca brothers' restaurant, "El Celler de Can Roca", but also live a new "deluxe" experience at the Casa Cacao hotel or enjoy the chocolate in the factory and the shop.
Integrated into the factory, the Casa Cacao boutique hotel has 15 rooms perfectly designed to make you think of the smell of chocolate with great care taken with every last detail of the decoration. Going up to the top floor of the hotel you'll find an open-air terrace where you can enjoy exquisite lunches created by chef Joan Roca using local products and you can also taste a handful of chocolate dishes from the Casa Cacao factory itself.
On the ground floor of the building you'll find the factory, a visible space at street level, where pastry-maker Jordi Roca and his team turn cocoa beans into delicious pieces of chocolate that are then sold in the shop.
After his many trips to South America, Jordi Roca knows the cocoa and its origins well, which is why he buys the raw product directly from the producers at the source in order to pay them a fair price for the better quality cocoa.
In the shop you'll find a wide variety of pieces of chocolate, some of them displayed in glass cabinets like jewellery. One important characteristic worth highlighting is that the packaging is made from recycled cocoa fibre materials. Jordi Roca may have created a colourful fantasy with Rocambolesc but with the Casa Cacao factory and shop he's definitely gone for elegance.
